The fund noted that:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Woodside\u2019s current strategy does not adequately mitigate the climate risk posed by its focus on oil and gas expansion.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It would like to see Woodside\u2019s board challenge the assumptions underpinning the company\u2019s oil and gas growth-focused strategy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It doesn&#8217;t believe the board&#8217;s sustainability committee has the necessary skills to deliver a more ambitious climate transition approach.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>To back this commentary up, HESTA also voted <strong>against<\/strong> the re-election of two members on the board\u2019s sustainability committee, as well as <strong>against<\/strong> CEO bonuses and executive pay But there is more work to be done.\n\nI would like to request that HESTA takes its recent commentary further by:\n\n1. Citing the risks posed by, and calling for an end to, Woodside\u2019s specific gas growth projects\u2014such as the Browse LNG export project\u2014in future public commentary on the company.\n\n2. This should come as no surprise, given AustralianSuper\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marketforces.org.au\/campaigns\/super\/super-funds-woodside-santos-voting-analysis-2024\/\">unwavering<\/a> support for Woodside\u2019s board director re-elections over the years: <strong>but it\u2019s not good enough<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>AustralianSuper is responsible for the retirement savings of millions of Australians and has a duty to manage the long-term risks posed by climate change.
